The power of social media (or not)

OK, I’ll be perfectly honest, the jury is still out for me on social media.

Queenscliff has LinkedIn and Twitter accounts (I can’t face Instagram/Pinterest quite yet) and I’m on both platforms every day sharing content I think will be of interest to my ‘target’ audience.

I’ve been at it for 6 months and I’m not really sure what I have got out of it. I’ve tried looking at other company’s twitter accounts and scrolling through their feeds but then realised I’ve got recruiting to do.
You see part of the problem I think is that I’m ‘old School’. I come from an era where we actually used faxes. I’m not saying we should go back to that, because time moves on and like it or not, social media is here to stay, I do believe that.

So my issue is getting my head around what is interesting and useful content. I’ve signed up for a course on social media because I don’t want to get left behind.

So don’t be surprised if I change my LinkedIn title from ‘Director’ to ‘Finder of Dream Jobs (FoDJ)’, get my ear pierced and hold all my future meetings standing up (with an obligatory soy latte to hand).

Wish me luck.

Alex Babic

Been recruiting for nearly 20 years covering international and domestic markets. Outside of work I enjoy (trying to) keep fit, cooking for the Family and taking our ebullient black Labrador for long walks. Also got a side interest in motorcycling.
