Taking a break from recruitment

So it’s Christmas. And boy am I glad for an excuse to get away from the soft blue glow of my monitor for a while. To be honest I’ve been feeling in need of a break for a while now. It’s been a fair old slog from the Summer, through an industrious Autumn and now it’s time to hang up the Recruiters cape and kick back with the family.

I intend to take a proper break, I will of course, have some sort of access to the net, and I’ll no doubt be dipping in and out of email. However, I think for one’s sanity, it’s really important to take a break from a job like Recruitment. It can be quite easy to get wrapped up in it, especially with social media being involved too (“yup hang on, I’m just retweeting this article….”).

Having a complete break means I can let the hunger grow a bit more for the New Year. Whatever sort of job you see recruitment as: it’s about making good deals where all parties benefit. And that’s the addictive bit for me. But you can get fatigue if you do the long, consistent hours, and that’s why you need to be able to walk away from it. (For a bit, anyway)

This week will be busy sending out cards and gifts and having the odd Christmas drink. But I’m really looking forward to forgetting about recruitment for a week or so and then coming back at it with a vengeance in the New Year!

Happy Christmas to you all!

Alex Babic

Been recruiting for nearly 20 years covering international and domestic markets. Outside of work I enjoy (trying to) keep fit, cooking for the Family and taking our ebullient black Labrador for long walks. Also got a side interest in motorcycling.
